This hardy perennial is native to North America, growing in a variety of conditions. It can be found in flood plains, along streams, in open fields, canyons and roadsides. Tolerant of moist to dry conditions, it typically does well in well-drained, sandy soils. Spreads with both suckers and self-seeds, it will make thickets. This is a great pollinator plant for honey bees.
