It is a bushy perennial herb sprawling to 1.5 meters in height, often exceeding two meters. The clasping, decurrent, oval-shaped leaves look like wings. The flower heads are produced in mass, and are white, pink or pale purple. The center contains many yellow disc florets. Flowering occurs in August through October.
