Camellia sinensis is a species of evergreen shrub. Common names include "tea plant", "tea shrub", and "tea tree" (not to be confused with Melaleuca alternifolia, the New Zealand tea tree). Tea plants prefer a rich and moist growing location in full to part sun. They will grow into a tree if left undisturbed, but cultivated plants are typically pruned to waist height.
The leaves are 4-15cm (1.5-6") long and 2-5 cm (1-2") broad. Younger leaves are typically a light green while older leaves will darken into a deeper green.
