This biennial is native to Western parts of North America, typically growing in rocky, mountainous areas. Does well in well-drained soils, so would be a great option for a rock garden. Although most grow to 40cm, there are reports of the plants reaching up to 150 cm in height. First year of growth, the plant grows a deep tap root, second year, it will grow rapidly above ground.
