North American native from the southeastern U.S. to New York, this elegant tree features striking, creamy-white flowers that emit a delightful lemony fragrance. The blossoms are creamy white, 6" (15cm) across, with 6-15 petals. The flowers carry a very strong vanilla scent that can sometimes be noticed several hundred yards away, and can appear from mid-spring through summer, providing a long-lasting spectacle.

Grows well in regular soil and also adapts to wet soils and shaded areas, making it ideal for diverse landscapes.
