Mandragora autumnalis <br>MANDRAKE
This interesting perennial is commonly mentioned in a number of mythological texts. Partially due to the structure of the roots, which can resemble a human form, this plant has an interesting history. Native to the Mediterranean regions, it grows well in part shade conditions. The plant itself has almost no stem, with the leaves developing from the base of the plant. Flowers from September to October, forming little yellow fruits later in the season. These fruits are poisonous and not for consumption. They should only be planted in well draining soils to allow room for the roots to grow. Clay based soils may make the roots rot due to the lack of drainage.
