This hardy perennial is native to the mountainous regions of Europe. Growing in the Alps, it is closely related to Phyteumas. Blooms into an interesting looking spiky flower, starting as a light pink, fading to almost black at the points of the blossom. Blooms from June to July, does best in full sun conditions in a rock garden. This plant has received the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society.
