Yucca glauca is native to North America, a perennial evergreen plant that is adapted to xeric (dry) growth conditions. It is also known as soapweed, soapweed yucca, Spanish bayonet, and Great Plains yucca.
The plants form colonies of creamy-white rosettes. Leaves are long and narrow, up to 60cm (24") long. Inflorescence is up to 100cm (40") tall, sometimes branched sometimes not. Flowers are pendent (drooping, hanging downward).
Yucca species are dependent on pollination by yucca moths. In turn the moths are dependent on yucca seeds as food for their larvae.
