This hardy perennial is native to Southern North America, growing well in average, well-drained soils. Although the plant is perennial, it will likely not survive the year after flowering. It will self-seed, and the parent plant helps create the proper environment for the seeds to germinate. When it does bloom, the flower stalk can potentially reach up to 2m (80") in height and may be covered with as many as 600 blooms. When the plant does flower, it typically blooms from May to July.
